What is seo?

SEO is short for search engine optimization but what is SEO? It is a process by which pages of content on your website are constructed in such a way that they are easily assessed and read by search engines. This assessment allows the search engines to match your content to that of a search request. Done well it means your website appears on the first page of results when someone searches for your information, product or service thereby increasing the number of visits to your website

Why is SEO important – seo digital marketing

Although we have seen the rise of other internet marketing platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc. SEO is still one of the most important digital marketing strategies you should be using

With around 63,000 searches on Google every second people still rely heavily on this platform day to day but how does it differ from other digital marketing strategies

It’s really about “intent”. When someone is flicking through their Facebook timeline for example, they are usually just in a  passive browsing mood, letting images, stories, your ad pass by so it’s only when something grabs their attention do they become engaged however briefly

A Google search can be very different – the intent is already there – they are already actively searching for something, a product or service and so if your website appears in those top tier positions there is a high chance they will click on your website link and move through to your site. Usually you wouldn’t search for a plumber or lawyer and not click on one of the results

The other important thing to keep in mind is the investment in SEO usually translates into direct traffic to your website. If you rank well in search results you get more traffic to your website once you appear on page one

Seo techniques

There are a number of different techniques that can achieve good search rankings, some are very powerful but frowned upon by Google, and when we say frowned upon – we mean that Google will block your site from appearing in its search results if it finds you using them, known as black hat. The better way is to use good seo practices, great content and proper keyword research for targeting - this is white hat seo

Black Hat SEO Techniques – things like keyword stuffing, cloaking, using Private Blog Networks (PBNs) and Link Farms are all examples of techniques frowned upon

White Hat SEO Techniques – Schema, Content, On Page SEO are all examples of assisting Google in understanding what you site page is about
